Love tenderly
Tony Tran
In the solo performance “Love Tenderly”, the Norwegian-Vietnamese choreographer and performer Tony Tran dissects the perspectives that are projected onto his body. Both his own and those of the outside world. His own life, growing up in Norway in a catholic family with Vietnamese heritage, is a story like many: A constant balancing act between the ideal of a world in which identity no longer plays a role and the reality of constantly having to fit in somewhere.
“Love Tenderly” is the translation of his father’s name. In the work unfolds a constantly transforming body before the eyes of the audience. All the desires, racisms and clichés that it carries come to light, along with the traumas accumulated over generations, with their emotional, psychological and social effects. Gradually, the story of a powerful emancipation emerges, one that draws less on action and myth than on energies and form, enabling the audience to take a different look at themselves: Who am I, and if so, how many?
Tony Tran
Tony Tran is a choreographer and curator based between Oslo and Geneva. His artistic works explores the transgenerational trauma, and the queer and decolonial perspectives from the inside and outside of Southeast-Asian diaspora. Tran´s work has toured in Europe, East and Southeast Asia as well as South America.
He has served as a member of the committee for performing arts for one of the main funding bodies in Norway - The Audio and Visual Fund (2020-24), been on the board of Scenekunstbruket - The Norwegian Network for Performing Arts for Children and Young People, as well as the Performance Arts Hub Norway, and part of the Artistic Council for Dansens Hus Oslo. He currently serves as a member of the jury for the national Hedda Award, and is a board member for the Norwegian Dance Union - Norske Dansekunstnere, as well as Davvi - Centre for Performing Arts in North Norway. Tran furthermore curated performance arts program for the cross-aesthetic music festival Lyse Netter.
He is also the founder of the Program Grands Crus - a foundation to support the creation and mobility of performing artists based in Vietnam.
