OM Transilvania International Dance Festival 2026

OM Transilvania International Dance Festival

OM Transilvania International Dance Festival is a biennial contemporary dance festival launched in Cluj-Napoca in 2024 and organised by OM Choreographic Center.

The festival brings together local, national and international artists and creates contexts in which contemporary dance can be seen, discussed and experienced from different perspectives.

Its programme includes performances, exhibitions, films, workshops, book launches and conversations with artists. Dance enters into dialogue with visual arts, film, research and other contemporary practices, while the festival becomes a meeting place for artists, audiences, professionals and the city’s cultural community.

OM Transilvania International Dance Festival aims to bring contemporary dance closer to a diverse audience, including people encountering it for the first time, without reducing the complexity of the artistic practices it presents.

At the same time, the festival offers artists a context for presentation, dialogue and the circulation of ideas, while contributing to a stronger and more continuous presence of contemporary dance within the cultural landscape of Cluj.

The first edition, held in 2024, opened this direction through a programme that brought together dance, film, visual arts, workshops and encounters with artists. The second edition continues this process and further develops the relationship between stage, audience and city.

2026 Edition: “Memories and Temporality”

The second edition of OM Transilvania International Dance Festival, taking place from October 8 to 11, 2026, is built around the theme “Memories and Temporality.”

The theme begins with the ways time transforms personal and collective experiences, and with the question of how those experiences continue to exist within the body.

In dance, memory does not exist only in documents, images or archives. It can remain in a gesture passed on, a posture, a rhythm, an artistic practice, or in a body that reinterprets an experience from the past in the present.

The 2026 edition approaches the body as a living archive, a space in which experiences are preserved, transformed and given new meanings over time.

The programme explores these ideas from different perspectives: the recovery and reactivation of choreographic histories, personal and transgenerational memory, identity, age, belonging, physical experience and the ways the body carries traces of the past into the present.

Through performances, exhibitions, films, workshops, book launches and conversations, OM Transilvania International Dance Festival creates a context in which memory is not understood only as something we preserve, but also as something we can reactivate, transform and pass on.
