Reverse Discourse is a performance that explores the body and space through movement and light, transforming the body into a tool for dialogue. By proposing a reversed dialogue, where the body itself is the communicator, the performance investigates body politics, uncovering deeply rooted gestures in collective memory. The audience becomes an observer of the subtle struggle between submission and oppression, as gestures gradually evolve, reflecting the shift in perspective and the energy of bodily transformation.
The choice to build the discourse in this form, with a bare back in a space oscillating between dark void and video projections, implies vulnerability. And vulnerability embraces an assumed fragility, allowing attention to focus on the essence of the message: the destructive force of power abuse. The initial idea of the project was developed by Ioana Marchidan and Hermina Stănciulescu in 2018, during the EMOȚIONAL creative residency initiated by Cosmin Manolescu in Lisbon, in partnership with Forum Dança, as part of a project co-financed by the National Cultural Fund Administration.
