OM - Transilvania International Dance Festival comes into being in 2024, in the Transylvanian space, a territory always marked by movement.
Launched under the patronage of OM Choreographic Center, the festival honors the collective and social dimension of contemporary dance and its accuracy in authentically defining human experiences. By organizing a contemporary dance festival, the center aims to bring new perspectives on the development of this type of movement in space and time.
OM is an international contemporary dance festival committed to capturing the spirit of our times, to taking the pulse of today and tomorrow, as a testimony of new times, deeply infused with technology and new forms of movement. From the first edition it proposes a continuous dialogue with related arts, especially visual art. So, it becomes a meeting place between the public and artists involved in new local, national, and international contemporary dance productions.
These meetings are translated into the festival's program through contemporary dance performances, exhibitions, film screenings, workshops, and thematic debates. All of these are intended to engage the public in discovering the art of contemporary dance that carries a minimal yet hallucinatory response to our human needs.
First edition’s theme: COMMON RHYTHM
For the inaugural edition of OM - Transilvania International Dance Festival, the proposed theme is "Common Rhythm". It is the rhythm that marks the similarity of individual experiences, which, though profoundly different, are nevertheless similar. So, the festival is an invitation to discover the universal language through which diversity is united, where any individual expression coexists in harmony with the others.
Recognizing the common pulse reminds us that there is rhythm in the beating of the heart, in the movement of the lungs between inhales and exhales, in any form of movement, in the day-night cycle. We are all marked by the circadian rhythm, guided by the movement of the sun around the earth. Our daily response to light and darkness represents human existence itself in all its shapes. It is rhythm, and all the forms of art are connected to it.
By discovering this shared rhythm, we unlock an endless realm to explore the fundamental links between people, cultures, and geographic regions.
